The Laboratory Technician is responsible for obtaining and preparing specimens for analysis. He or she shall perform various screening tests on clinical specimens and maintain quality assurance standards.
Responsibilities
Performs technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, immunology, and allergy testing.
Reports test results following ACPNY protocols, alerting physicians and/or nurses immediately about red flag results.
Ensures quality control in collecting specimens and in ensuring appropriate sampling and recordkeeping.
Maintains equipment and instruments providing routine preventative maintenance as appropriate.
Requests supplies from CLS.
Ensures departmental supplies are adequate.
Complies with all quality assurance policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control.
Substitutes for and performs the duties of other personnel in the Laboratory Department as directed by the supervisor.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Completion of medical technologist or medical laboratory technician program
Preferred:
Prior experience in a fast-paced, high patient volume environment
